PSLF During Residency – The PSLF form is an application form that you will need to fill out in order you can be eligible for the public service the Loan Repayment Program. The PSLF is a program that allows to have your loans forgiven when you reach 10 years in service. To be eligible for the program, you must work full-time for a qualified employer, and you must make on-time 120 payments.

If you’re not sure about what is an employer that is qualified, below are some items that are eligible:

-Your government employer

It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization

-An un-profit or public health care organization

-An AmeriCorps or Peace Corps volunteer service

When do I need to File For PSLF During Residency?

You’re eligible for PSLF only if you hold a qualifying loan and are able to make 120 qualifying payments on that loan. It is possible to apply for PSLF by making just 10 qualifying installments, but you must file for it at the beginning of the 10th year of your repayment period.

You do not need to file for PSLF prior to the start of your payment period. You can wait until you’ve made 120 transactions before submitting your application.
