When do I have to file for Retroactively PSLF Payments?

You are eligible to apply for PSLF when you own a qualifying loan and are able to make 120 qualifying payments to that loan. You may be eligible to apply for PSLF after having made just 10 qualifying installments, but you have to file for it during the first 10 years after the start of your repayment period.

There’s no need to be a candidate for PSLF from the very beginning of your repayment period. You have the option of waiting until you’ve paid 120 payments prior to filing for it.
