You are eligible to apply for PSLF when you own one of the loans that qualifies and you’ve made 120 qualifying repayments on that loan. You may be eligible to file for PSLF after you have made only 10 qualifying payments, however you must apply in the initial 10 years following your repayment period.
You do not need to be a candidate for PSLF when you begin your repayment period. You have the option of waiting until you’ve paid 120 transactions before submitting your application.
